I started using Twitter back in the summer. It's a great way to stay in touch with people in your industry, see what's on the burner for like-minded people (and businesses), and also generate more awareness for your own company.

Here's basically how it works: Twitter allows you to post mini-updates to your status, which is like the short form of blogging. You can follow others' updates and they can follow yours, leading to a great exchange of ideas, links, and such.

Though the page is generally set up and maintained by one person, you can make it about your business, as I am doing with SEO Advantage, or you can make it about just yourself.

Aside from being a part of the social networking for business puzzle, it's fun for the ego to see who's decided to follow your updates, too. When I followed Nick Usborne, he followed me right back! As a copywriter-turned-marketing-director, I've appreciated his writings on, well, writing, for years. I also received an email saying Jill Whalen was following me, but I didn't see her in my actual followers. Perhaps it was just the fake Jill Whalen she mentioned in a recent update...

At the moment, I'm looking into getting our Twitter updates integrated with our Facebook page for SEO Advantage, too.
