Gainesville Plastic Surgery Center Weathers Recession, Outperforms Other Florida Cosmetic Surgery Practices by 20%

It’s nearing the 4th quarter of 2009 and the recession still drags on. People are putting plastic surgery and other luxury spending on hold as they wrestle with job security and house prices that continue to drop.

For the average plastic surgery center in Florida, this does not bode well. Revenue decreases of 25 percent are the norm across the state.

But Accent Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics has barely noticed the recession, with its services still in high demand. This is remarkable considering that in recent years the number of competing plastic surgery practices in Gainesville has grown, also.

“Our plastic surgery practice is fully booked,” says Walt Atyeo, CEO at Accent. “And our aesthetic services clinic has maintained its volume. With consumers cutting their spending and more local competition in recent years, being able to hold our position has been a great success for us. We have not seen revenues dip more than 5% at any point, while other practices are seeing decreases of 25% or so just due to the recession.”

What’s their secret? Atyeo thinks it’s due at least in part to an investment in Internet marketing. Since October 2008, the Gainesville plastic surgery practice has worked with online marketing company SEO Advantage to raise its visibility and reach out to potential customers online. Now the practice is showing prominently in Google natural searches for around 200 keywords associated with Gainesville plastic surgery and aesthetic services.

Two years prior, the practice website only showed for a handful of terms like the practice or plastic surgeon’s name, which meant visibility was limited to those who already knew of the practice.

In fact, Accent is so confident that Internet marketing holds the key to reaching more local patients that the Gainesville plastic surgery practice has signed a three-year contract with SEO Advantage to attack Internet marketing at the rate of 350 percent over the prior year. As a premier account at SEO Advantage, Accent’s goals are clear – Internet dominance. “We know people are getting their info from web searches,” explains Atyeo. “If we’re appearing at the top of those searches and then people are lingering on our site reading the information we have there, we know we’re positioning ourselves to be their choice when it comes time to take the step to contact a plastic surgery clinic.”

In addition to reaching more customers, the practice is able to save on its advertising. Says Atyeo, “We’ve been able to decrease our overall promotional costs, cutting many of our print advertising expenses. That same amount instead invested into the practice’s Internet presence has the potential to influence plastic surgery consumers on a much greater scale given the way people now conduct their search for information.”
